Have you just decided to begin your homeschooling journey? Maybe you are still unsure whether homeschooling is right for you.
On this page you will find valuable information to help guide you on this new, life-changing journey.
WHERE DO I START!?
The best place to start is to connect with other homeschool families and ask lots of questions! We invite you to come to our
next monthly meeting to get to know us. Membership is not required to attend the meetings. Go to the “About Us” page for membership
information. Look on the Schedule page for the next scheduled meeting, or contact our group leader.
Next, read all you can about homeschooling. There are so many great books available at book stores and at the library.
Here are a few recommendations to get you started:
- A Comprehensive Guide to Home Education in Colorado (available from CHEC, or borrow it from another homeschooler)
- A Biblical Home Education: Building Your Homeschool on the Foundation of God’s Word by Ruth Beechick
- So You’re Thinking About Homeschooling: Fifteen families show how you can do it! by Lisa Whelchel
- Mary Pride’s Complete Guide to Getting Started in Homeschooling by Mary Pride
- The Homeschooling Handbook: from preschool to high school by Mary Griffith
- Homeschooling the Teen Years by Cafi Cohen
Next, make sure you are familiar with the Colorado Law regarding homeschooling and decide how you will operate your homeschool.
Below are a couple of websites to help you in your decision making.
Finally, choose your curriculum. There is a vast array of choices available for curriculum. Start with recommendations from friends,
and obtain catalogs via the internet and mail. Homeschooling magazines are also a good resource for information.
A few of the popular magazines are listed below.
Be careful to not let the plethora of information overwhelm you. Take your time and remember to pray about your decisions. Stay connected
with others and let the “veteran” homeschoolers encourage and help you (come to our next meeting to meet us)!
